چکیده

D ue to the increasing availability and recent advances in computed tomography (CT) technology, use of CT has increased. In 2007, approximately 68.7 million CT examinations were performed in the United States. In comparison, in 1995 approximately 21 million CT examinations were performed. Many investigators have expressed concern for the rising cumulative doses of ionizing radiation delivered to patients during these examinations; however, little is known about patients’ feelings concerning CT and the increased radiation exposure. In this study, we sought to evaluate patients’ perspectives about the medical decision-making process regarding obtaining a CT scan and to assess the degree of patient knowledge concerning radiation dose and risk resulting from CT.

Assessment of radiation-induced cancer risk to patients undergoing computed tomography angiography scans

Background: Computed tomography angiography (CTA) scan is a suitable imaging technique to evaluate the blood vessels. However, one major disadvantage is the potential risk of cancer related to ionizing radiation exposure during the procedures. The aim of this investigation was to estimate the risk of exposure induced cancer death (REID) values for some common computed tomography angiography (CT...

Estimating the Radiation-Induced Cancer Risks in Pediatric Computed Tomography

Introduction One of the central questions in radiological protection is the magnitude of the risks from low doses of radiation, related to the justification and optimization of the diagnostic medical exposures. Therefore, the aim of this study was to estimate the cancer incidence and mortality risks in children of different ages, sizes, and ethnicities undergoing computed tomography examination...

Patient-Specific Radiation Dose and Cancer Risk in Computed Tomography Examinations in Ondo, Nigeria

Introduction: The dose in computed tomography (CT) often approach or exceed the optimum levels, thereby increasing the probability of cancer induction. With wide application of this diagnostic test, it is expedient to determine the effective dose (ED) for each patient to estimate their cancer risk. This study was conducted to investigate the patient-specific dose (PSD) and cancer risk in CT exa...

Evaluation of Patient's Dose and Estimate of Cancer Risk in Electrophysiology Studies and Ablation in Cath Lab Center of Afshar Hospital, Yazd, Iran

Introduction: Today electrophysiology studies and ablation have been developed due to increasing arrhythmias disorder of heart. In these diagnostic – treatments methods, the use of fluoroscopy can be causes patient radiation dose, therefore evaluation of patient's absorbed dose is necessary to protection of the radiation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the absorbed dose in patients under...

Cumulative radiation dose caused by radiologic studies in critically ill trauma patients.

BACKGROUND Critically ill trauma patients undergo many radiologic studies, but the cumulative radiation dose is unknown. The purpose of this study was to estimate the cumulative effective dose (CED) of radiation resulting from radiologic studies in critically ill trauma patients. METHODS The study group was composed of trauma patients at an urban Level I trauma center with surgical intensive ...
